Just some random things I don’t want to dedicate a whole blog post to:
- This funny review of Adventures of Mana that actually makes me think that yes, maybe good games are wasted on mobile users. I’m being facetious. But is there anything funnier than someone complaining that it wasn’t sufficiently explained to him that you need to save your game in order to save your game, and that enemies can hurt you? What’s so bad about having to figure these basic things out by yourself, by playing around? If you are so scared of making a little mistake along the way, why are you even playing videogames? We were all new to basic JRPG controls and gameplay, once … I don’t remember it ever being a big deal that you figure out some stuff by playing around.
- I failed to express my squee about The X-Files when the episodes were new, but let me just stress that Mulder And Scully Meet The Were-Monster is one of the greatest X-Files episodes ever, and made me so, so happy. I also realized that I just like seeing Scully and Mulder solving weird shit together, and that I miss TV shows about normal people trying to get to the bottom of weird, supernatural phenomena. Preferably with some skepticism and science involved.
- Saw a few episodes of Grimm, and think it’s a terrible, useless waste of a TV show. Its premise, its sorry excuse for mythology, its inability to spell or pronounce the simplest of German words, the whiny protagonist who treats his girlfriend like shit and wallops in manpain, horrible CGI and episodes structured so badly you might as well watch them backwards or – my recommendation – not at all …
- Also worth mocking: This comment on Yu Yu Hakusho. Admittedly old (8 years! I’m late to YYH…) and irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, but I find the “logic” of homophobes so very, very fascinating. Do they really think adding “I’m not against homosexuals in any way” makes their complaint magically non-homophobic? And does this guy really think Itsuki loves Sensui “despite his depravity”? Emphasis mine. Honestly, you’d think a homophobe could take solace in the fact that Itsuki is literally a sadistic demon, Sensui a psychopath, and that there’s definitely something kinda unhealthy about their relationship. Buuuuut that’s a fallacy. It’s worth remembering that homophobes don’t really care whether a portrayal of LGBT people or relationships is positive or negative. They just don’t want to see it at all.
